We realized that the exchanges between the desktop publishing service and the authors are generally not formalized, requiring many reading/proofing steps, our publishing platform based on Flex and InDesign allows designers to publish their work so that authors may make text corrections directly inside the document without altering the layout.

Every one taking part in the publication creation cycle has something to gain with this platform: modifying the document directly,

• make authors more accountable which entails that the overall quality of the work (they can no longer blame someone else for spelling mistake),
• Designers can spend more time on the creative part since they don't have to deal with text corrections,
• deadlines can be extended due to the fact the corrections are made by a non-ambiguous means (no more phone calls or unreadable faxes).

We relied on a solution implemented for E-Graphic (TBWA) which enables users to type in translations for car brochures directly in the InDesign document using a web browser. With this solution, the document is deconstructed to be displayed as a form in a web page.

J2S chose to develop with Flex, Adobe's development framework used to design rich applications to improve the overall usability. The way it works : after selecting a user-specific published document, the author browse through the document, and if needed double clicks to edit a given text frame. Once the modifications are saved, the original document is updated.

The J2S Flow solution is a demonstration of our know-how ; this technology can be adapted to suit our customer specific needs.
